A simple starting point

Generator size calculator

Add what you want to power, enter its electrical input, and see a high-level generator size estimate. Your load list starts empty.

Your supply

Not sure? Leave single phase selected and ask Gold Coast Generators to confirm.

2

Add equipment

Choose an item or add your own. Typical values can be changed.

Estimate lighting or general power by floor area

Optional for buildings. Use planning rates supplied for your site; add air conditioning, pumps and lifts separately. Do not count the same lighting or outlets twice.

Example only: 100 m² × 10 W/m² = 1 kW. A suitable rate depends on the building; this is not an AS/NZS 3000 maximum-demand assessment.

Your loads

Include only equipment you want to run. All included loads are counted together.

Generator options

Up to three options with suitable running ratings. Gold Coast Generators will confirm compatibility before you buy.

A quick guide

How to find your appliance power

1

Find the data plate

Look on the unit or in its manual. Do not remove electrical covers.

2

Find kW or amps

Use electrical input or rated current. For air conditioners, cooling and heating capacity are not electrical input.

3

Enter the value

Choose kW or amps in the load details. If it is unclear, send Gold Coast Generators a photo of the plate.

My data plate shows watts (W)

Divide watts by 1,000 to get kW.

Enter watts above

Important: preliminary estimate only

This is a high-level guide, not an electrical design or AS/NZS 3000 maximum-demand calculation. Typical assumptions cannot verify motor starting, phase balance or site conditions. Gold Coast Generators and a licensed electrical contractor or electrical engineer must confirm final sizing, especially for pumps, lifts, fire or medical equipment. Fixed-wiring connections require a licensed electrician and an approved changeover arrangement. Never run an engine-driven generator indoors.
